Our Mission
Our mission is to maintain and preserve land records for Ottawa County according to Kansas statutes and to make them accessible for public inspection.

Open Records
The Register of Deeds office is governed by the Kansas Open Records Act.  Almost all records in the Register of Deeds office are required by law to be open to public inspection during regular business hours.  The exceptions are the Kansas Real Estate Sales Validation Questionnaire and military discharge records which are open only to authorized persons.

General Recording Requirements
Documents presented for recording in the Register of Deeds office must be signed, notarized, of sufficient legibility to produce a clear and legible reproduction, and must have a complete legal description.  The Register of Deeds office reserves the right to reject documents with improper or incomplete legal descriptions.  Legal descriptions typically include lots, blocks, subdivision and city names for platted property.  Unplatted areas usually contain section, township and range numbers.

Fees
Recording fees are set by state statute.  A current fee schedule may be obtained by contacting this office.
