Starting Salary: 20.04 Per Hour

Primary Accountabilities:
The Noxious Weed Spray Applicator/Operator is responsible for performing skilled manual labor while mixing and applying chemical to noxious and other weed infestations, in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures. This position is required to operate and maintain all department machinery and erecting and replacing 911 road name signs.
Major Duties:
• Consults with the ROAD AND BRIDGE ENGINEER on matters relating to department operations.
• Operates spray truck and spray equipment.
• Mixes and loads toxic chemicals.
• Loads and unloads the chemical supply.
• Maintains all required certifications by state law and shall provide a copy to the Ottawa County Clerk’s office for personnel file.
• Maintains Ottawa County 911 signs.
• Remits to the County Treasurer all monies that are collected by the Noxious Weed Department.
• Assists with ensuring that the County Noxious Weed building and equipment is maintained and in good condition by performing general maintenance and upkeep, along with ground maintenance and upkeep.
• Prepares and applies chemicals to County and State properties in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
• Assists with maintaining all equipment to ensure accurate performance and cleanliness.
• Attends training sessions on new chemical, label changes, procedures, and new laws and regulations concerning the use of pesticides.
• Ensures that all safety policies and regulations are followed and adhered to, including keeping all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) current.
• Maintains chemical application records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Must possess high school diploma or GED.
• Must possess valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at all times during employment with Ottawa County.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Applicators License with categories 6 and 9A. Time frame for training will be determined.
• Must be able to pass the Basic Course offered by the State Board of Agriculture. Time frame for training will be determined.
• Must obtain Forklift Certification. Time frame for training will be determined.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment strength testing, and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as random testing throughout employment.
• Must obtain knowledge of chemicals and their properties and how they affect plants in general.
• Must obtain knowledge of equipment, building maintenance, and equipment used to perform everyday requirements for the job.
• Ability to organize and schedule times to spray chemicals.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to speak effectively to customers in a professional manner, along with other County personnel.
• Ability to operate a computer as necessary to complete assignments.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
• Ability to recognize problem areas and apply existing knowledge and experience to correct in a timely manner.

Title: Road and Bridge Member

Primary Accountabilities:
The Road and Bridge Member is responsible for performing tasks involving physical, semi-skilled equipment operation at sites. This position may perform general Road & Bridge duties related to bridge construction or repair, as well as duties related to asphalt work and preparation. This position may operate hand and power tools of all types, operate light equipment, and may assist other workers, performing duties while maintaining safety of site for all workers and the public. This position will interact with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about services and to handle and resolve any issues while delivering the highest level of customer service to Ottawa County.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Operates a variety of vehicles & equipment, included but not limited to, light equipment vehicles, mowers, pickup trucks, single axle dump trucks, small front-end loader, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
· Operates power tools such as chainsaws and weed eaters.
· Operates equipment and do assigned work observing safety rules and common-sense practices.
· Completes clean up of the yard and/or shop buildings, and general utility work.
· Performs general Member duties related to road work such as flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, grass and weeds, and replacing traffic control signs.
· Cleans up roadside debris.
· Assists with snow and ice removal.
· Performs duties related to bridge construction or repair such as patching bridge surfaces, replacing bridge planks, and setting forms for concrete.
· Performs duties related to asphalt work and preparation for asphalt work, and general clean up after.
· Works with other departments to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Qualifications:
· Must possess high school diploma or GED.
· Must possess or be able to obtain a Kansas Driver’s License during all times of employment with Ottawa County. Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of employment.

The Dispatch position provides clerical and communication support for the Sheriff’s Office. Title: Personal Property Clerk/Data Collector Mapping Transfers

Primary Accountabilities:
The Personal Property Clerk/Data Collector is responsible for conducting the discovery, listing and valuing of personal property for ad valorem taxation purposes. This position conducts field surveys to gather real estate and personal property data, interacts with customers in a professional manner, and handles and resolves all issues while delivering the highest level of customer service to Ottawa County, the community, and other departments and/or agencies. This position also performs duties of clerical and skilled work relating to discovering and listing personal property within Ottawa County for tax purposes in compliance with all laws and regulations. Position will do transfers of property working with deeds and transfers documents from Register of Deeds. Assist in verification of agriculture use.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Assists citizens to the office in filling out forms and answers questions in order to take corrective action on problems, if necessary.
· Prepares personal property renditions, boat storage listings, and manufactured home listings for mailing.
· Prepares renditions on failure to file using boat listings, manufactured home listings, fish and game reports, and vehicle registrations.
· Determines value of personal property for appraisal rolls.
· Assists taxpayers with filling out applications for exemptions on personal property and processes paperwork for State Board of Tax Appeals and appeals decision.
· Verifies vehicle registration classes.
· Places taxing units on renewed vehicle registrations.
· Prepares comparison of mobile homes and boat listings to individual renditions.
· Collects and lists information regarding personal property on tax rolls and makes corrections when needed.
· Identifies and locates property parcel from subdivision plats, maps, and legal descriptions.
· Visits properties to verify accuracy of records.
· Measures the perimeter of structures, draws sketches to scale and computes the area in a square foot basis, and the perimeter of structural improvements.
· Identifies structural features of buildings and determines types of construction.
· Interviews owners, tenant and/or agent to obtain information.
· Measures additions to homes and estimates when projects will be completed.
· Communicates with public to obtain information for appraisal purposes.
· Identifies property uses.
· Records descriptive data on the appraisal record card and submits reports.
· Assists in zoning questions.

Qualifications:

· Continuing education is required.
